Nutrition and Training
Before we do delve into those specific tools, we must first tackle the meat of your change pyramid: nutrition and training. Successfully creating self-awareness in the fitness and health aspect is almost a Catch 22 scenario. You have to be aware of what you are doing in order to know how to change it. But you have to learn the basics of nutrition and training in order to fully build your self-awareness. This section of the chapter will provide you with bare essentials of knowledge. There are entire courses, books, and degrees that focus on each of these two areas. In addition, there are many methods people may use to get in shape. Some people rely upon the âDo It Yourselfâ (DIY) approach, in which they use minimum guidance to achieve a goal. This may include reading articles, watching videos, and applying learned principles to their daily activities without ever hiring a trained professional. But for most people, we highly recommend that you seek professional assistance in the beginning, primarily from a doctor and a certified trainer. As discussed in the previous chapter, it is important to know your current physical and health condition, which involves getting your blood work done. This also builds an assessment and understanding of your body to see which physical activities you can perform and where you lag in joint and stability performance. Although there are commonly used programs and so-called standard diets, each person will react differently for each program, thus creating varying results that may or may not match with your original fitness or performance goals.
Therefore, our goal as authors is not to teach youâ the readerâhow to eat or how to train but instead to bring awareness about best practices that currently exist and to provide tools and resources that will get you on track as well as keep you there while you work towards your health, fitness, and competitive goals. This section will be designed to provide basic definitions and couple them with specific tools and resources to help you gain knowledge that is designed specifically for your unique goals.
